Wildflower Garden

To make the sides of the track into Faurefold  interesting in the spring , last autumn (2012) we planted 100s of daffodils which looked lovely Spring 2013; I also made some rustic willow hurdles to stop people driving off the track. Then, in about April, we rotovated the ground and planted special wild flower seeds; it said on the box they were flowers that ladybirds like. They were right. Since late June there have been all sorts of flowers and even now there are more flowering.
It is a small start but I am really pleased with the result. And it seems that the deer and bunnies don’t like to eat them. Roo

Woodland Exploring Path

Something new I’d not heard about is the woodland exploring path that goes from the corner of the car park through the ‘bush’ all the way parallel to the A25 fence to the other end of the site; it winds in and out of the trees and bushes, a great place to set a trail or treasure hunt, or just play hide and seek . New mattresses

Thanks to a grant from Gatwick Community Trust we have bought new mattresses for the bunk beds at Faurefold. The new mattresses are blue with white stripes and fully waterproof – so no plastic covers any more.  So more comfortable beds now.

And thank you to all easyfundraising users. We have just had our quarterly cheque for £45. Margaret

Faurefold Open Day

You’re invited to come and see the progress made at Faurefold, and to join us for a cup of tea or coffee and some cake. Saturday 6 April 2013, any time between 10:00 and 16:00.

Waitrose donation

Good news. I collected a cheque for £210 from Waitrose in Dorking following our participation in their community scheme.  Very generous – please thank all those who voted for us with their tokens in store. Margaret

Successful day at Dunsfold

For the 800 or so runners at Dunsfold on Sunday, our bacon sandwiches and mugs of tea and coffee were just the thing after a 10 or 20 mile run.  Luckily for us the stand was in a hanger so out of the wind.  Some of us though braved the elements and manned a water station, directed cars in the car park  or runners around the course.  All together we raised just over £1000 for Faurefold. So a successful day and thanks to all who helped.  Thanks too to the race organisers who gave us the opportunity. And for those using www.easyfundraising.org.uk when purchasing online, we have received our first quarterly cheque – £20. Margaret

Buy a Brick Challenge

You’re invited to ‘Buy a Brick’ to help build our new Holiday House at Faurefold. ‘Bricks’ will be on sale from February 2013 (distributed by Commissioners) at just £1 each.
We would love every member of Girlguiding Surrey East to be part of this exciting project by buying her own brick(s) – family and friends are welcome to buy too! How creative can you be selling bricks? There will be a prize for the District selling the most bricks, so be sure to put the name of your District on the back of your cheque.
Cheques should be payable to Faurefold Fundraising and sent to Mrs G Ede, Nightless Copse, Rusper Road, Capel, Surrey. RH5 5HE by July 31 2013. For more details contact us.

January 2013 Working Party

Whoever thought that January would be a good day for a Faurefold working party? But we did have a list of inside jobs to do. Days before there was inches of snow covering the site – very pretty but rather chilly. But on the day, the sun shone and the snow melted away.  So some of those inside jobs were put aside for the greater fun of sorting camping equipment outside.  Our new shed paid for by Toyota at Banstead looks great and now has equipment neatly stored awaiting the first visitor.  The next working day is 25 March – yes a Monday for those who prefer weekdays.
The car park is a huge improvement – all we have to do now is stop parents ignoring it and doing wheelies on the grass in front the the building. Bookings are going well and already we have had hardy brownies in for a weekend.  This is what we are here for.
